What is buckner flask?

Buckner flask is a type of vacuum filtration apparatus commonly used in chemistry laboratories for separating solids from liquids. This apparatus consists of a filtering flask, a funnel, a filter paper, and a rubber stopper. The filtering flask usually has a flat bottom and a sidearm for attaching a vacuum hose. The funnel is placed on top of the flask with a folded filter paper in it. The rubber stopper is used to seal the funnel to the sidearm of the flask.

When a vacuum is applied to the sidearm of the flask, the air is removed from the flask, creating a negative pressure. This causes the liquid to pass through the filter paper and collect in the filtering flask, while the solid particles get trapped on the filter paper. Buckner flasks are commonly used for separating suspensions, precipitates, and residues from liquid samples. They are also used for collecting bacterial cultures and plant extracts.
